“To Err is Human, to Forgive, Divine…”
My grama, to whom this entire platform was established upon, has left this remarkable imprint on me that I will forever be grateful for. In her honor I write this:
Matilda "Mudzy" Mary Marchese, at the remarkable age of 98, returned to heaven on Tuesday, February 7, 2023. Daughter of polish immigrants, Matilda was born on May 22, 1924, in Detroit, to the late Joseph and Josephine (nee: Nicpon) Zubrowski.
Matilda was the beloved wife of the late Sam Marchese, proud mother of her five strong-willed Sicilian boys; John, the late Sam, Joseph, the late Christopher and the late David Marchese. Matilda loved everything about her sons, she prayed daily they would always be together and be loved. She devoted her life and earnings to the Catholic church, saying her goal in life was to be a nun, but she didn't follow through. Her humility and tenacity led her to live through the great depression, world wars, civil wars, pandemics, heartache, grief and loss; but the love for her family held strong. It is through her we have learned forgiveness, as she lived by the quote "To Err is Human, To Forgive is Divine!"
"Mudzy" was an avid reader of ancient history, even traveling to Fatima, Portugal to see the spot of the conception of the Virgin Mary. She endured hardships and medical blimps along her 98 years, yet was constant to her faith in God, her family and her independence. To know her was to be a part of her unwavering love, as it left an unforgettable mark.
Matilda is survived by her grandchildren Cynthia, Holly (Scott), Alicia (Chris), Daniel, John, and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 3 sisters; Irene, Lilian and Wanda, 2 brothers; John and Edward, and 1 great-grandchild, Jersey.
"I shall pass through this world but once. Any good, therefore, that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again." -Mudzy's favorite verse about faith
